During the years which I lived in the Kansas City area, there were at least
two confirmed instances of the following scenario:

Clever  bad  guy  has  a  very professional sign made which states that the
bank's  night  depository  is  not functioning correctly and that all night
deposits  should  be  placed into the box just below the sign.  He then, of
course, collects the box and the sign just before dawn.

In  both  confirmed  cases,  significant numbers of night depositors placed
their daily receipts into the box.
