Hill Street Blues: A New Beginning

"The producers of 'Hill Street Blues' announced that they will
attempt to cut costs by trimming the size of its cast." - News item

Scene: A police car cruising the Hill Street precinct.

Renko: I dunno, Bobby Hill, I had some of that soul food last night and my
unmentionables are on fire. Can you pull over again?

Hill: Renko, your European intestines just ain't equipped to handle the
pure beauty of barbecue. You should stick to those funny white
sausages your mama used to --

Renko: We got trouble over there.

The car pulls to the sidewalk and jumps the curb. A thug turns and fires
a bullet through the windshield. Hill slumps in his seat.

Renko: Holy mother of --

Cut to: The station house. Fay Furillo bursts into Frank's office.

Fay: Little Frank just knocked over a liquor store.

Frank: Fay, I'm very busy right now.

Fay: I just took a large dose of poison.

Frank (yelling out the door): Ray, could you get Fay a glass of water?

Ray: Sure thing, Frank.

Fay: This is serious, Frank.

Frank: I understand that, Fay. This is just a very bad time for me.

Cut to: A hostage situation in progress. Henry Goldblume is speaking on
the telephone.

Henry: I understand that you're upset, William. Why don't you release the
little girl and then we can talk about it?

William: Off my back, pig.

Goldblume starts across the street. Three shots ring out. Goldblume falls
to the pavement.

Cut to: The back room of a bar. LaRue and Washington are working a
stakeout.

Washington: Come on baby, say the magic words.

LaRue: I think they're on to us.

The door flies open. Close-up of a revolver firing many shots. LaRue and
Washington crumple.

Cut to: The inside of a ghetto apartment. Lucy Bates approaches a woman
armed with a knife.

Lucy: Why don't you put that down and we can talk it over?

Woman: No more talk.

Woman lunges with the knife at Lucy. She falls to the floor. Joe Coffey
enters the room. The woman attacks him. He falls to the floor.

Cut to: The station house. Fay is dead.

Frank: Ray, she was serious. Get the poison out of her purse.

Joyce (entering): What's wrong, pizza man?

Frank: Joyce, Fay just took her own life. I have no choice but to do the
same thing. (He drinks Fay's poison.)

Joyce: My life is not worth living. (She also drinks the poison.)

Ray: You two have been the reason for my existence. (He drinks poison.)

Renko (bursting in): Captain, Bobby Hill and Lucy and Joe and Henry and
Washington and LaRue are dead as goddamn door knockers.

Frank (gasping): You'll have to carry on.

Howard (entering): Judas Priest, Frank, we've got an epidemic on our hands.
