Like I said, Aaaaaaaaaagh!!! I stood in line for six hours to get my Who tickets. I was five or six people away from the ticket window when the Capital Centre announced to the person behind the counter that all tickets were gone except for some singles up in the rafters (bring oxygen). Well, this would have been okay, 'cept I was supposed to buy eight tickets (adjacent). CLASS "A" BUMMER!!! They are haggling with the promoters to schedule a second show. Crowd control (Fairfax County police) informed me that if there were another show, my line position from the original line would be honored (floor seats would be neat). Some dude who lives around the corner from me got a whole pile of floor seats, and he won't sell me any. Some things merit no forgiveness, but that is a matter of opinion. By the way, the concert is at the Capital Centre, Largo, Maryland, Wednesday 22 September 1982. Tickets were on sale for two hours twenty-eight minutes (scheduled capacity is 23000 for this show). Tickets were available from the Capital Centre box office and all Hecht's Department Stores (remotely related to the May Co.). Yes. Not Yes, Who. I am decidedly not interested, but it might be useful to relate some experience that was obtained whilst procuring tickets for the Rolling Stones concert last winter. We were very organized. My wife was in line 24 hours ahead of time. There were maybe 50 people ahead of us. We worked in shifts. Charlie Clingen was there at night. Bonnie Braun replaced him about midnight. For most of it it was a party sort of atmosphere, everybody having a good time. About 4:30, the drinking and etcetera finally took its toll. The idiots broke through the line. Suddenly there was this horrid mob scene at Diamond's front door. I lost a lawn chair which was stomped to death by the hordes. People stayed crammed together like that for the next few hours. Folks were getting crushed against the glass doors by the people behind them. Short people (no reason to live) were having to leave because they could not get any air. And folks were walking in off the street and getting as good a chance as anybody who had been there all night. When the doors finally opened I (who had been attempting to do some crowd control in hopes of avoiding another Cincinnati) figured out a path to the front and was able to get in at approximately the correct spot that I would have been in had the line not collapsed. I got my maximum of 10 tickets and went home exhausted. Perhaps the most maddening thing was that the cops did nothing. And to hear the media nothing happened. The cops took the attitude that we were all animals anyway so why do anything. The local media was, well, the local media. This all took place at Metrocenter. People who were at Park Central reported none of this crap. People who were at Rolling Stones Records at 35th and Northern reported worse (cops, arrests, etc.). The worst part came the following Monday when I called Diamond's to find out where our seats were. The tickets that I had nearly died for were in the opposite end zone from the stage. Diamond's had not used any logic when dividing up the tickets. The first person in the door at Metrocenter had tickets that were just as crummy as mine. I nearly was unable to sell the 3 extra tickets we got. Instead of a tidy profit we broke even on them. People were selling tickets for a dollar apiece the day of the concert. I was lucky though. I had been so upset that I had called Feyline Productions several times to chew them out for how badly things had gone. One night I got in the car to go to Metrocenter to try and pawn the tickets off on some unsuspecting teenagers. In the car, I heard on the radio that they were selling a batch of excellent tickets at Rolling Stones Records. I went there and found one of the Feyline people who I had talked to on the phone. He allowed me to trade in 3 crummy tickets for 3 good ones. We had good seats and all came out well. We occasionally used the binoculars to view the Clingen family in the upper deck of the far end zone, though. All things considered, I am not going to go to the Who concert. -------------------- End of Miscellaneous Digest ***************************
