Subject:  John Landis secrets revealed
I first noticed his secret message in his movies when I saw "An American
Werewolf in London" after I had seen "Kentucky Fried Movie".  Both had
movie theater scenes, and both movie theaters were showing the same
film--"See You Next Wednesday".  I then went back and re-watched other
movies Landis had directed, and managed to find the same phrase in
almost all of them, as well as some other things in common between
movies.  The following is a list of what I've found:

   Kentucky Fried Movie (1977):  The "Feel-a-Rama" sketch takes place in
a movie theater showing "See You Next Wednesday".

   National Lampoon's Animal House (1978):  The closing scenes which
tell what happens to the characters in the time after the movie took
place include one for Neidermeier (the ROTC jerk) which states that he
was "Killed in Vietnam by own troops".

   Blues Brothers (1980):  A billboard by the side of the road in the
Good Ole Boys chase scene advertises a movie called "See You Next
Wednesday".  Frank Oz plays a prison employee who returns John Belushi's
possessions.

   An American Werewolf in London (1981):  The werewolf is visited by
his undead victims in a movie theater showing "See You Next Wednesday".

   Trading Places (1983):  A movie poster on the wall of Jamie Lee
Curtis' apartment advertises "See You Next Wednesday".  Frank Oz plays a
policeman who returns Dan Aykroyd's possessions.

   Twilight Zone The Movie (1983):  After the American troops in Vietnam
shoot Vic Morrow, one says to the rest, "I told you we shouldn't have
shot Lieutenant Niedermeier".

   Thriller (1983):  In the movie Michael Jackson is watching (and
acting in), the following conversation can be heard:  "It's a message,
scrawled in blood." "What's it say?" "See You Next Wednesday."

There is at least one more John Landis film, which I haven't seen,
called "Schlock" (his first) which came out in 1971.  If anyone can find
a "See You Next Wednesday" in either Animal House or Twilight Zone, I'd
be glad to hear where it is.

As for the source of "See You Next Wednesday", Ron Harvey was watching
2001:  A Space Odyssey and noticed that the last thing astronaut Frank
Poole's parents say to him in their birthday message is "See you next
Wednesday."

movie theatre there is a poster for "Schlock".

for the movie (if different).

Yes, he did it for the "short film" (long video) as well.

John Landis played the gorilla in "Schlock", but he didn't play the
gorilla in "Trading Places".  There are a lot of actors in common in the
Landis list.  I was going to say that Ola Ray was in "Thriller" and
something else, until I realized that the something else was "48 Hrs.",
which was not a John Landis movie, though it did star Eddie Murphy--who
was also in "Trading Places".  (excuse the stream of consciousness)

Into the Night (1985): There is a poster for a movie "See You Next
Wednesday" in the office of the movie producer played by director Paul
Mazursky.  There are many director cameos in this movie, including
Paul Mazursky (Next Stop Greenwich Village, many others), John Landis,
Roger Vadim, David Cronenberg (Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone),
Paul Bartel (Eating Raoul, Deathrace 2000), Lawrence Kasdan (Body
Heat, The Big Chill), Jonathan Demme (Melvin and Howard, Stop Making
Sense), Richard Franklin, Colin Higgins (Best Little Whorehouse in
Texas), Don Seigel, Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Jim
Henson (muppet movies).  In the airport scene, "Frank Ozowitz" is
paged.

Spies Like Us (1985): There is a U.S.  Army recruiting poster which
says "The Army Can Teach You A Skill -- See You Next Wednesday".  More
director cameos, this time including Terry Gilliam (Monty Python,
Brazil), Costa-Gavras (Missing, many more), Martin Brest (Beverly
Hills Cop), Frank Oz (muppet movies).

Three Amigos (1986): not found.

Amazon Women on the Moon (1987): not found.

Coming to America (1988): movie poster in subway station.

Blues Brothers (1980): John Landis cameos as an Illinois trooper
driving the backup car in the mall chase.
(Also, there's an error in the spinout of the Blues Brothers' car
after the scene where they run the yellow light.  The car spins
counterclockwise (viewed from above), but the scenery goes to the
right behind John Belushi)
